I'm adding this sub-board so that posts can be made about Micro-Ecosystems. Biology doesn't strictly have a field named "Macro-Ecology," so anything from Micro to Macro Ecology posts are welcome here. It's understandable that a "Macro-Ecology" field would not exist in Biology, because that would likely & simply be an Ecosystem in itself. But here, we skate on that thin ice and allow "Macro" and "Micro" Ecological Environments to be explored. In other words, any posts on the microscopic level up to macro sized environments such as a 10m x 10m section of a yard which includes systems like ponds - and 10m x 10m is simply a reference point, not a requirement, perhaps you want to explore/post about an area smaller or larger than that.
The definition, strictly speaking is:
Microecology - Ecology of all or part of a small community (such as a microhabitat or a housing development).
Microhabitat
- A small, localized habitat within a larger ecosystem, as a decomposing log in a forest, having conditions that sustain a limited range of animals and plants
