Hi folks - I'm Mike. I'm semi-retired and live in County Durham in the North East of England, about 60 miles from the Scottish border. My home is right on the edge of suburban sprawl, farmland and protected wild countryside. Within 5 - 10 minutes' walk I can be in dense woodland... A 25 minute drive gets me to the coast... 30 - 35 minutes drive and I'm in wild, barren hills with nothing for miles around except the occasional shepherd's hut or stone ruin.
I'm here because (a) I want to support Michael in establishing his new Science-naturalists site, (b) I've always been casually interested in nature and the world around me (more so as I get older), and (c) I love to learn from others

Welcome from across the pond & thanks for supporting my page.
Sounds like you live in a similar place that I do. I'm outside of city limits, but a short drive from it. I live closer to the forest, so it's easy for me to get there and observe nature. However, I'm not close to the coast - that would be a 5 hour drive for me.
Michael
